Organization Configuration
Backup Accounts / Backup Applications
When a M365 organization is added to VB365 a single backup account or backup application is used to handle all backup operations. This default is at the same time the best practice which also complies with Microsoft’s recommendations.
If you experience heavy throttling we recommend to open a support case with Veeam to get dedicated advice based on your environment. This advice might include adding multiple backup accounts or applications based on various circumstances like how SharePoint is used.
Azure AD Application permissions for the organisation
To be able to connect and protect data from Microsoft 365 Online Services, certain Azure AD application permissions are required. Please see the Veeam Helpcenter for details on
- Permissions for Modern App-Only Authentication
- Permissions for Modern Authentication and Legacy Protocols
When adding an organisation the wizard will offer to create the Azure AD applications with the correct permissions automatically. If this is not possible because of certain reasons, please stick to the required permissions listed above for a manual setup.
Azure AD Application permissions for the Restore Portal
The wizard to enable the Restore Portal offers the creation of an Azure AD applications with the correct permissions. If this is not possible because of certain reasons, please see this Veeam blog entry on how to manually perform the setup.
